And the winner is...Usdaw scoops the TUC best reps communication award

Date: 19 July 2017 Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has won the prestigious TUC best communication for reps and activists award for the union’s Network magazine.
The annual Trade Union Communication Awards celebrate the vital role TUC affiliates’ communications teams play in keeping members and reps informed and engaged. This year the entrants were judged by: Alan Jones - Press Association, Rt Hon Alan Johnson - former MP and Jon Skewes - Royal College of Midwives.

Usdaw won the ‘best communication for reps and activists’ category in the face of stiff competition from a higher number of entrants than last year. The judges noted a strong field that gave them plenty of high quality entries to choose from. They ultimately decided on Usdaw’s Network magazine over entries from Prospect, UNISON, BDA, FBU, NASUWT, UCU and Nautilus International. The award was accepted on behalf of the union by Mike Glover - Usdaw’s head of media and communications.

In declaring Usdaw’s Network magazine the winner, the judges said: “A very impressive magazine with high-quality briefing for activists. We liked that it celebrated reps and gave a sense of enjoyment and satisfaction in representing fellow workers. Well produced and written, Network is both an interesting read and a vital source of information.”

John Hannett – Usdaw General Secretary says: “We are delighted that the judges have voted Usdaw the winner of this award and for the commendations they gave us for our Arena members magazine and our own awards nights for outstanding work by lay-reps.

“Usdaw’s media and communications department do excellent work to ensure that the union reaches out to our members on many platforms, including magazines, publications, the Usdaw website, e-mails and social media. Our lay-reps are the face of the union in the workplaces and it is crucial they are supported and well informed. Network magazine is an important part of ensuring Usdaw reps are kept up-to-date.
