Checkout Learning is part of the Lifelong Learning Campaign that encourages members to return to learning by providing accessible and affordable courses. Checkout Learning is aimed at retail staff in particular.
The campaign works with local colleges to provide suitable learning at local venues – sometimes even in-store. But it’s not just about learning; it helps to build membership and Union organisation and developing Usdaw Union Learning Reps (ULRs) helps raise the profile of the Union in a very positive way.
Checkout Learning started in 2007 and was an immediate success. In the first year the campaign visited over 60 stores, brought over 500+ members back into learning and recruited over 400 new members. That‘s around seven per store. It’s clear that learning is a key issue in retail and is yet another good reason to join Usdaw.
