John Hannett – Usdaw General Secretary says: “There are elections in every area and I urge people to use their vote. You can try to ignore politics, but politics won’t ignore you. Decisions made by those elected today will affect all of our lives.
 
“I am asking Usdaw members to vote Labour, as the only party that consistently stands up for working people and supports Usdaw’s campaigns. Our historical link is as relevant today as it was when the trade unions set up the Labour Party, because together we campaign to improve workers’ lives and win for members.”

Usdaw (Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers) is the UK's fourth biggest and the fastest growing trade union with over 440,000 members. Membership has increased by more than 17% in the last five years and by nearly a third in the last decade. Most Usdaw members work in the retail sector, but the Union also has many members in transport, distribution, food manufacturing, chemicals and other trades.
