How to get involved

Getting involved in the Labour Party is easy.

There are lots of ways you can get more involved in politics and the Labour Party. It doesn’t need to be a massive commitment and can be a great way to meet other activists with similar interests.

Talk about Labour!

The first step is so simple – just tell people you will be voting Labour! Never underestimate the influence you have on those around you – friends, family and work colleagues. This literally costs you nothing, takes very little effort and can have a significant impact. If you want to start a conversation about voting Labour, but you’re not sure where to start, take a look at our Election Hub for some ideas.

Join the Team!

If you’re a member of Usdaw who’s interested in joining our team of activists and getting involved in our political campaigning let us know and we’ll be in touch! It’s completely free and a great way to hear more about ways you can get more involved with politics in your region. Full training will be given and when out campaigning you will always be part of a group. Join the team here.

Join the Labour Party!

Being a party member is a great place to start if you want to get more involved in politics. As a member of the Labour Party you can go along to meetings, meet your local councillors and MPs and get involved and share what Usdaw is up to locally. Usdaw members get a reduced rate on Labour membership fees. Join the Labour party here.

To understand a bit more about what Labour Party meetings might be like, see our guide to Labour Party meetings.

Engage with Labour your way!

There are lots of different societies and strands within the Labour Party, including Young Labour for under-27s, LGBT Labour, BAME Labour, Labour Women’s Network and Disability Labour. If you’re interested and want to find out more about how the Party works then contact us at politics@usdaw.org.uk.

Affiliate your Usdaw branch to Labour!

Once you are a members of the Labour Party, your Usdaw branch can link with the local Labour Party and send you as a delegate to constituency Labour Party meetings. Check out our leaflet on how your branch can link to the Labour Party and the affiliation form.
