Usdaw members at DHL Long Eaton vote decisively for industrial action in a dispute over redundancy payments

Date: 24 May 2021 Usdaw members, working on a Marks & Spencer’s third party logistics contract for DHL based at Long Eaton in Derbyshire, have overwhelmingly voted in favour of industrial action in a formal ballot. The dispute is over the amount of redundancy pay that long serving staff will receive when the site closes at the end of July.
Ed Leach – Usdaw Area Organiser says: “Over 90% of Usdaw members have voted decisively in favour of industrial action, with a turnout well above the legislative threshold. It is extremely disappointing that we have been forced into this position by DHL’s refusal to agree that staff employed prior to July 2003, who are now being made redundant, are entitled to significantly enhanced redundancy pay.

“Industrial action is always a last resort, but long-serving DHL employees who have given decades of loyal service deserve what we believe they are entitled to and fair treatment in these difficult times.  We call on the company to get back round the negotiating table before our members are left with no choice but to take strike action.”
