Paddy Lillis – Usdaw General Secretary says: “Keir Starmer today made clear Labour is the party of working people, explaining that he is of working people and for working people. That is demonstrated by his commitments to a well-paid and secure workforce through a new deal for workers and we know that he will deliver. This is in stark contrast to the Tories who are pulling the rug from under low-paid families with an unfair cut in Universal Credit and increased National Insurance, as we face a looming cost of living crisis.
“His commitment to a partnership between good business and good government shows that he understands that working people need enterprising creative companies that make profits and employ more people, in decent jobs and are protected by trade unions. A good society paid for by a strong economy. That is the post-Brexit and post-Covid vision our country needs to help the economy recover and deliver fairness for working people.
“Today we have seen a Prime Minister in waiting, a party ready for Government and leadership that is founded on the key British values of work, care, equality and security. That is very different from what is on offer with the current Government, which lurches from one crisis to another. It is clearer than ever that we need to win the next general election and secure a Labour Government.”
