Labour Conference 2023: Usdaw President addresses the Labour Unions rally and welcomes the new deal for workers

Date: 09 October 2023 Retail trade union President Jane Jones joined fellow trade unionists and leading Labour frontbench MPs in addressing a packed TULO rally at Labour’s annual conference in Liverpool, which was sponsored by Thompson’s Solicitors.
Also on the panel of speakers were: Keir Starmer MP, Leader of the Labour Party; Angela Rayner MP, Deputy Leader; Rachel Reeves MP, Shadow Chancellor; Louise Haigh MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Transport; Anneliese Dodds MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities and Party Chair, and representatives from trade unions affiliated to the Labour Party

Jane Jones – Usdaw President said: “I'm thrilled to be talking to you all today at the start of such a positive conference. A conference where we can take one more significant step towards securing a Labour victory, a Labour Government and Labour's New Deal for Workers. We know that Labour and unions working together can change the world for the better. Unfortunately, after thirteen years of Tory lies, mistakes and incompetence, we also know the cost of letting the other side in.

“There can be no question of the urgent need to deliver Labour's New Deal. Each day, in my workplace and in my community, I see people struggling to get by on insecure contracts. I see people showing up to work ill because they cannot afford to take time off and I see workers abused and assaulted, simply as a result of doing their job. Within Labour's New Deal, we have a solution to all of these issues.

“Unfortunately, there's no telling when the Tories will finally give up the ghost and just call an election. However, that does not stop us from promoting the benefits of Labour's New Deal, a new deal that would deliver the most transformative changes to workplace rights in living memory.”
