Retail trade union Usdaw has welcomed that the growing issue of violence against shopworkers was raised by Labour MP Daniel Zeichner in the House of Commons at today’s Prime Minister’s Question Time, but the union is disappointed with Rishi Sunak’s response.

Rocketing food prices continue to devalue wages – Usdaw calls for a new deal for workers to help with the ongoing cost of living crisis

Retail trade union Usdaw is calling for the Government to address the cost of living crisis, after today’s statistics show that wages continue to be devalued by double-digit inflation. The Retail Prices Index (RPI) rate dipped slightly to 13.5% and has now been in double-digits for a year. Against predictions to the contrary, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) also remained in double figures at 10.1%.

ShopKind Week: Usdaw joins the call for respect for shopworkers, who are under pressure during the cost of living crisis

Retail trade union Usdaw has welcomed today’s launch of the national #ShopKind Week, which encourages shoppers to treat staff with respect. New polling reveals that more than one in three people believe that shopping has become more frustrating as a result of the cost of living crisis and 36% of customers have personally witnessed a shopworker being verbally or physically abused by another customer.

STUC Conference: Usdaw calls action to tackle the retail crisis and support workers facing automation

Retail and distribution trade union Usdaw has a delegation of reps and officials attending the 2023 Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) annual conference in Dundee, starting on Monday 17 April. The union is calling for action to promote a retail recovery plan, along with tackling the issues workers face as their jobs are impacted by new technology and automation.

Usdaw members vote ‘yes’ to keeping their political voice

In the first result of this round of trade union political fund review ballots, retail trade union Usdaw has today announced that over 96% voted ‘yes’. This is the fifth 10-yearly review ballot Usdaw has conducted under the legal requirements introduced by the Thatcher Government in 1984.

Minimum wage increase not enough in a cost of living crisis, we need a new deal for workers says Usdaw

Retail trade union Usdaw is disappointed that low-paid workers will not receive a minimum wage increase that will provide a wage they can live on. Tomorrow’s increase in the so-called National Living Wage to £10.42 an hour doesn’t meet Usdaw’s call for at least £12 per hour immediately, as a step to £15, or the real living wage rate of £10.90.
