TUC LGBT+ Conference 2020: Usdaw highlights discrimination of LGBT+ parents at work

Retail trade union Usdaw had submitted a motion to the TUC LGBT+ Conference, which will not now go ahead this week because of the Coronavirus emergency. Usdaw’s motion about discrimination of LGBT+ working parents will now be referred to the TUC LGBT+ Workers’ Committee, along with all motions on the conference agenda.

Usdaw has called on the Prime Minister to back up his words with actions by improving Statutory Sick Pay so that it reflects the average earnings and doesn’t penalise those taking necessary time off to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Retailers urged by Usdaw to maintain existing two metre social distancing in shops

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is urging retailers to maintain social distancing in shops at two metres, as agreed in joint safety guidance, after the Prime Minister announces a ‘one metre plus’ rule for situations where two metre distancing cannot be observed. He today confirmed to the House of Commons that “where it is possible to keep two metres apart, people should”.

Government rethink on longer Sunday trading welcomed by Usdaw, we now need an industrial strategy and recovery plan for retail

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has welcomed reports that the Government will not be pressing ahead with plans to deregulate Sunday trading hours having listened to the arguments. Usdaw continues to call for an industrial strategy for retail, which was struggling before the Coronavirus emergency and a tripartite recovery plan involving government, retailers and Usdaw.

Social distancing in shops should stay at two metres and any changes must only be done by agreement says Usdaw

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has called for social distancing in shops to stay at two metres, as agreed in a tripartite process involving the union, retailers and the Government. Usdaw calls for any changes to the joint safety guidance for retail to only be done through further discussion and agreement.

Retail trade union Usdaw has today given oral evidence to the BEIS Select Committee enquiry into the impact of the Coronavirus emergency, with a call for the Government to agree with employers and trade unions a recovery plan for the high street, which was already struggling before the Coronavirus emergency.

Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has surveyed over 11,000 retail staff in England and Wales following reports that the Government is planning to deregulate trading hours allowing large stores to open all day on Sundays.
