Usdaw's campaign to hit high streets across the country on Saturday 2 March 2019 26 February 2019 Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is campaigning for the Government to take urgent action to ‘Save Our Shops’. Activists from the union will be engaging with local MPs and the shopping public to urge them to support the campaign by signing the ‘Save our Shops’ petition. Usdaw is seeking assurances over jobs and the future of the Dairy Crest business 26 February 2019 Dairy Crest has agreed to be bought by a Canadian company Saputo, one of the biggest dairy processors in the world. The purchase is still subject to shareholder approval. Usdaw has sought assurances from senior Dairy Crest management over jobs and the future of the business. Peers urged to vote for protection of shopworkers as an Usdaw survey reveals increased levels of violence, threats and abuse 25 February 2019 Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw is calling on Peers to support a protection of shopworkers amendment to the Offensive Weapons Bill, when it goes through report stage in the House of Lords tomorrow. The union has today released shocking new statistics showing that incidents of violence, threats and abuse against shopworkers remain a major problem on the frontline of retail. Labour Women’s Conference: Usdaw calls for improvements to maternity rights for all women 22 February 2019 Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has a delegation of members attending the Labour Women’s Conference, where the union is promoting a motion to improve maternity rights for all women. The conference takes place in Telford, Shropshire on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 February 2019. Usdaw calls the High Streets 2030 Inquiry a Missed Opportunity 21 February 2019 The House of Commons’ Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee has published their report High Streets and Town Centres in 2030. There are a number of useful ideas in the report which echo calls made in Usdaw’s own Industrial Strategy for the Retail Sector. Elis staff are left stunned by the news that the Kirkcaldy site will close in April with a loss of 86 jobs 20 February 2019 Following a consultation period laundry company Elis have confirmed that they will be closing their Kirkcaldy site in April. Despite huge efforts to avoid the outcome the company have decided to shut the facility and move all operations to their site in Glasgow. Sainsbury’s and Asda merger in doubt – Usdaw calls on the CMA to listen to workers’ concerns over jobs 20 February 2019 The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has today released its provisional findings into the proposed Sainsbury’s and Asda merger. The CMA has so far concluded that on the balance of probabilities, a merger would result in a substantial lessening of competition.
