Rocketing food prices continue to devalue wages – Usdaw calls for a new deal for workers to help with the ongoing cost of living crisis 19 April 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw is calling for the Government to address the cost of living crisis, after today’s statistics show that wages continue to be devalued by double-digit inflation. The Retail Prices Index (RPI) rate dipped slightly to 13.5% and has now been in double-digits for a year. Against predictions to the contrary, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) also remained in double figures at 10.1%. Minimum wage increase not enough in a cost of living crisis, we need a new deal for workers says Usdaw 31 March 2023 Retail trade union Usdaw is disappointed that low-paid workers will not receive a minimum wage increase that will provide a wage they can live on. Tomorrow’s increase in the so-called National Living Wage to £10.42 an hour doesn’t meet Usdaw’s call for at least £12 per hour immediately, as a step to £15, or the real living wage rate of £10.90.
