Today the Retail Prices Index (RPI) rate of inflation dipped slightly to 14% and the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rate to 10.7%. Usdaw welcomes progress on a TUC co-ordinated legal challenge to “strike-breaking” agency worker regulations 14 December 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw is one of eleven trade unions who launched a judicial review of the Government’s new regulations which allow agency workers to fill in for striking workers and break strikes. A YouGov opinion poll of 1,763 UK adults, commissioned by Usdaw, has found that 79% support their local supermarket closing all their stores on Boxing Day. Usdaw’s own surveying found that 97% of supermarket workers also want the closure. ICTU (NI) Biennial Conference 2022: Protect Northern Irish retail workers from abuse, threats and violence says Usdaw 23 November 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw has a delegation attending the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) Northern Ireland (NI) Biennial Conference in Enniskillen on 22 and 23 November. The union is calling for retail workers in Northern Ireland to be offered specific legal protections from violence, threats and abuse. Retail workers in Norther Ireland have been left behind while protections have been introduced in England, Scotland and Wales. Transgender Day of Remembrance: Usdaw marks the end of Trans Awareness Week at the union’s national LGBT+ Get-Together 20 November 2022 Usdaw’s national LGBT+ Get-Together took place in Manchester over the weekend. With Sunday being Trans Day of Remembrance, which marks the end of Trans Awareness Week every year, the union took the opportunity to remember trans people across the globe who have lost their lives to violence by observing a minute’s silence. Welsh Labour Women’s Conference 2022: Usdaw highlights the gendered impact of the cost of living crisis 18 November 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw has a delegation attending the Welsh Labour Women’s Conference in Aberystwyth on 19 November. The union is highlighting how the cost of living crisis has a greater impact on women workers and is calling for Welsh Labour to support improving incomes to help the lowest paid make ends meet. STUC Disabled Workers’ Conference 2022: Usdaw calls for an end to the impact of austerity and raises issues around flexible working 18 November 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw has a delegation attending the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) Disabled Workers’ Conference, which is being held in Glasgow on 19 and 20 November. The union is calling for an end to disabled workers paying the price for austerity policies and for access to flexible working to be promoted. Energy bills to increase by 135% in a year under the Tories – Usdaw condemns the Government for failing workers in the cost of living crisis 17 November 2022 Retail trade union Usdaw has criticised the Government’s inadequate response to energy price increases, with household bills already doubled in six months and set for a 135% annual increase in a year. Average household energy bills were £1,277 in March 2022, climbed to £2,500 in October 2022 and will now rise to £3,000 by next April 2023.
