Apprenticeships and NVQs

Apprenticeships are now the major route for people to gain skills and qualifications at work. They are available at different levels.

You can only do an apprenticeship if your employer has signed up to the apprenticeship scheme. Many such as Sainsbury, Tesco, DHL, the Co-op have already done so. If you are not sure whether your employer offers apprenticeships, ask your Usdaw Rep or Union Learning Rep about it.

Usdaw Reps and ULRs play a crucial and rewarding role in encouraging colleagues both to access and remain on Apprenticeship Programmes. As reps, you are ideally placed to provide confidential advice and support to ensure they succeed. As a trusted colleague who knows the workplace well, you are likely to be familiar with the issues apprentices may face day to day and know the mechanisms to use to address these quickly. To find out more about how to support Apprentices in your workplace why not try our short Litmos course, if you are already a Litmos user click here to go directly to the course. If you don’t have access to Litmos yet, you can sign up for free here using code: Usdaw1
