Shopworkers’ trade union leader John Hannett has responded to reports that the Conservative general election manifesto will contain a commitment to give the Pensions Regulator new powers to scrutinise takeovers or "unsustainable" dividend payments that threaten the solvency of a company pension scheme.

An 8% jump in theft from shops is very worrying

Shopworkers trade union leader John Hannett has expressed deep concern that the Office of National Statistics (ONS) has today revealed in their Crime Survey for England and Wales that shoplifting continues to rise, increasing by 8% during 2016, contributing to a 21% increase over the last decade.

Usdaw calls for talks with Debenhams on their store review

Debenhams has unveiled plans to close 11 warehouses and put up to 10 stores under review, in a move impacting at least 220 jobs. Shopworkers union Usdaw is again asking the company to end their refusal to engage with the union and allow their staff to have a proper voice in this process.

M&S store reorganisation starts with six closures - Usdaw calls for talks

Shopworkers' trade union Usdaw has called on Marks and Spencer to immediately open up a dialogue with the union to ensure staff are properly represented, after the company announces the first six of 60 store closures as part of a reorganisation that will affect around 100 shops over a five year period.

Shopworkers’ trade union leader John Hannett is greatly concerned by new research, released today, revealing that almost 6,000 convenience store workers experience verbal or physical abuse every day when asking customers for age identification. Shockingly, over 250 racially motivated attacks also take place across the country each day.
